Darford was founded in 1987 by Darcy
Bomford, the current President.
The company was born out of Darcy's love for animals, especially dogs. Seeing that the pet market was full of biscuits and treats made with sub-par ingredients, he decided to make a healthier more natural treat. He began baking these new recipes in his home kitchen at age 19.
Darcy moved from his kitchen in 1987 to a 1700 square foot manufacturing plant, complete with used bakery equipment gathered from throughout the country. During the next four years a two person team made Darford biscuits at a rate of 100lbs per hour and slowly gathered market share in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. In 1992 the plant was moved and expanded to 4000 square feet, with the addition of a 'tunnel' oven and 'rotary cookie forming machine' to speed up production.
Presently, Darford Industries has grown to over 30 employees and operates out of a modern, export certified manufacturing facility of 25,000 square feet complete with modern tunnel ovens, dryers and packaging equipment. Darford Super Premium Dog Biscuits are now sold in Asia, North America, South America and throughout parts of Europe.
Besides manufacturing their own line of products, the company has also become an industry leader in developing products for other companies. As a result, many of the higher quality biscuits available in North America today, are in fact made by Darford Industries.
